How to use Instant Workbook™

Instant Workbooks™ provide interactive tools for English language students. Instant Workbook™ is made up of exercises that you can give to your students. The exercises are based on Instant Lessons™. Instant Workbook™ is exclusively available to our Gold Members for their students. The exercises complement our other materials from the English-To-Go website. Use Instant Workbook™ exercises as a follow on from the Instant Lessons™ that you have already enjoyed or plan to use in the future.

 

Library
The library is where you will find the lists of exercises, which match up to the Instant Lessons™ that you have used, or plan to use. You can view each exercise and then select the exercises you would like your students to do. Students access these exercises via the Internet. If you think an exercise is suitable, click "select" to make it available to your students. Exercises are available for 5 days from the start date you enter. Click "Generate/update passwords" - to get a username and password to give to your students.

If you would like to see Instant Workbook™ from your students' perspective, click "log out", and then sign in using the username and password you just created.
Note that the username and password will only function for the date range you requested.

 

My Workbook
My Workbook is where you view all the exercises you have set up for your students. You can also view the exercises that your students have already used. You can remove exercises, view the username and password required to access them, or change the dates they should be available. You can change the dates of the exercises so they can be used again.

Use the Library to add exercises to your Workbook.

How do my students access the exercises?
After setting up an Instant Workbook exercise for your students, you can provide your class with the username and password for that exercise. All students use the same username and password. The students can then connect to the Internet and go to www.instantworkbook.com and do the exercise by logging in with the password you have given them.

Each username and password only access one exercise, and will expire after 5 days from the date you set when selecting the exercises.

What if my students or I can't do the exercises?
The problems could be because of the settings on the computers.
For our lessons to work you need to have cookies enabled for our site. You also need to have you security settings on "medium".

There may be a couple of other things that could be preventing things from working properly.
1. Are popups allowed to come from our site? As the lessons open in a new window, some security systems call them "pop ups" and if you have Google bar on explorer, you will need to allow pop ups.
2. Do you have ad-blocking software working on your computer? This can sometimes affect how pages open.

If you are using internet explorer, there is sometimes a little 'eye' at the bottom of the page you will see if the cookies are blocked.

To change your settings go to:
Tools
Internet Options
Privacy
and then use the slider to set security to medium.
You can click on the "edit" button at the bottom of the screen (on the page you went to above) where it refers to cookie handling for individual sites.
Sites (button)
In "address of Web site" field, enter selfaccess.com
Click 'Allow' Button.
Check down the scrolling list to ensure that selfaccess support is set to 'Always Allow'
Save
Close all IE instances and restart IE.

After changing these settings, particularly the enabling of cookies it is sometimes necessary to empty the cache on your computer and to re-start your machine.

How do I know if an Instant lesson or Anna grammar has a linked workbook exercise?
Look out for the Instant Workbook symbol next to individual Instant Lessons or Anna Grammar pages. The symbol tells you that there is a corresponding exercise to that resource.

Can I see a list of all the exercises?
Go to the Instant Workbook library and you can see a complete list. To get there, you can click on "library" in the yellow menu bar near the top of the page.

How can I see the exercises?
Choose "view" to have a look at each exercise. If you would like your students to do that exercise, then click "select".

How do I get a password?
After you have chosen an exercise by clicking "select", you simply choose the start date. This is so you can plan when you want to use the exercise. Once this has been done, click "Generate/update passwords". The username and password can then be given to your students.

What if I forget the password for an exercise?
"My Workbooks" helps you plan and organize. This is where all the usernames and passwords for the exercises you have selected are stored. If you forget a password and username, or if you forget whether you have used an exercise before, you can check here. To get there, you can click on "my workbook" in the yellow menu bar near the top of the page.
